Samsung Electro-Mechanics Develops Small-Sized Camera Modules
November 10, 2005
Samsung Electro-Mechanics has developed two camera modules for handsets with significantly smaller form factors. One of the new offerings is a 2MP camera module, measuring 8.8x8.5x6.9 mm, making it 35% smaller than existing models, while the other one, a 1.3MP camera module measuring 7.4x7.4x5.0 mm, is 15% smaller. The company has altered the design and the manufacturing process for these modules, and it adopted CoF (Chip on Flexible) technology. Besides cutting down module size significantly, picture quality also has seen improvements. In addition to these modules, Samsung Electro-Mechanics also plans to roll out high-resolution camera modules with gyro, optical zoom, and mechanical camera shutter in the near future in order to reach its one trillion Won sales target for camera modules in 2007.
